Expedition Planning - Practical Lesson AP1

Lesson Objectives
|
- Dive Leader training included the planning and marshalling of
dives at locations known to the branch. This lesson further extends
these activities to the consideration of all the planning implications
necessary to conduct a multi-day 'expedition' to an area unknown
to the branch and remote from it's normal area of activity.

Achievement Targets
At the end of this lesson students should:

- Understand how to use available sources of information to select
dives sites in areas unknown to them
- Understand how to determine site location information
- Understand how to determine likely conditions on site and the
impact of these on dive planning
- Understand how to develop diving and logistical plans appropriate
to diving unknown sites over a multi-day period
- Understand the additional considerations regarding travel, accommodation
and equipment that need to be communicated to participants

Equipment Required
|
- This lesson will require the use of charts and Ordnance Survey
maps for an area not known to the branch, Chart 5011, tide tables,
dividers, parallel rules, dive guides for the area, magazine articles
and other sources of reference information.

Dive Planning and Marshalling - Practical Lesson

Lesson Objectives
|
- This lesson extends the practical Dive Marshalling activities
covered during Dive Leader training to include practice in planning
and marshalling for sites at locations unknown to the branch or
any of the divers involved. By its nature it also consolidates
knowledge and skills common to both situations. The lesson also
extends the range of considerations to include the logistics necessary
for multi day diving at locations remote from the branch's normal
area of operations.

Achievement Targets
At the end of this lesson students should:

- Be competent and confident in their abilities to perform the
role of Dive Marshal for diving at sites unknown to the branch
involving multi-day diving at locations remote from the branch's
normal area of operation
- Including the use of available sources of information to select
dives sites in areas unknown to them
- The determination of site location information
- The determination of likely conditions on site and the impact
of these on dive planning
- The development of diving and logistical plans appropriate to
diving unknown sites over a multi-day period
- The management of the additional considerations regarding travel,
accommodation and equipment that need to be communicated to participants
